I Want Beautiful Feet

This week I was reminded again that generally, as humans, we don't know what we don't know. We all learn as we go on this journey of life. I had an experience this week that showed me that my way of doing things isn't always the best way and often we need someone to teach us or show us the way.

A friend of mine has produced a wonderful organic blend of oils and creams that act as a moisturiser, and I purchased some from her. She had mentioned that it was good for putting on your face, especially just before going to sleep. So I decided that the best way of doing this was to lie in bed just before going to sleep and apply the oil with a dropper; first to my forehead, then to each cheek and then my chin and neck.

However, as you can imagine, this ended up with me having oil running down my face in all directions, whilst I was trying to screw the lid onto the bottle without spilling it - all while lying down. It was quite a debacle!! But I didn't even think there was another way. My friend hadn't explained any other way, so I just made up my own way of applying it.

When I met my friend for coffee, I shared with her what I had been doing. She couldn't believe it - she just assumed I knew that the best way to apply it was to drop a small amount into one palm and then rub your hands together and then rub it all over your face and neck. Oh my goodness... how easy is that? She told me the way it had been designed to be applied. Once she told me, I saw it, I understood it. It all became clear. And so simple!

I didn't know what hadn't ever been explained to me.

Romans 10: 12-15 says this:

"But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?  And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

There, the Bible says it: Feet are beautiful // maybe not always, like at the end of a hot summers day when they are tired and sweaty

BUT they are beautiful when they bring a message of good news of peace and salvation - the message of Jesus Christ.

I want to share 3 things that I believe God wants us to know about where our feet tread:

Where our feet tread, He gives us courage and promise

In Joshua 1, God told Joshua that the same promise that He had given to Moses, He was giving to Joshua. A promise about wherever Joshua set foot, he would be on land that God had given him. God then tells him that He won't abandon him, and that Joshua was to be strong and courageous.

God is with us; Father, Son and Holy Spirit .... and will never leave us. We can have courage wherever He asks us to step.

Where our feet tread - He gives us authority

Luke 9:1-2 tells us this: "One day Jesus called together his disciples and gave them the power and authority  to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases. Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick."

The authority that He gave to his disciples, He gives to us also ... if we are Jesus-followers, we have been given the same authority to see the Kingdom of God released into our community. Let's walk in that authority.

Where we tread - our footprints should be visible for people to follow

I read a quote a few weeks' ago and it really impacted me:

"You must be careful how you walk, and where you go, for there are those following you who will set their feet where yours are set”  Robert E Lee.

In today's society, and thanks to social media, we can see whats going on in each other's world and what we are doing at any time of the day or night, on this side of the world, or the other side. People are watching each other all the time.

So let's make our footsteps visible // let's make God's love visible // Let's be the ones who tell others about what they don't know yet // Jesus love them // Let's be the ones who have beautiful feet ... who bring the good news of peace and salvation that Jesus offers to everyone.

For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus will be saved.  Romans 10:13
